The Ultimate Mr. Clean
I was at the store the other day, buying cleaning supplies. I was looking at stuff to clean floors and I picked up the Mr. Clean. Can anyone hear his name and not think of the jingle from when you were a kid. Even if all you know is the “Mr. Clean, Mr. Clean” it pops into your head. The whole chorus of the jingle goes like this:
Mr. Clean gets rid of dirt and grime
And grease in just a minute
Mr. Clean will clean your whole house
And everything that’s in it
I know when we have a rainy week (like we are having now); the dogs come in and out and leave tracks on the tile. I try to keep them clean, but with the kids letting them in it does not always get done right away. After the weather has passed, I get out the Mr. Clean and he picks up all the dirt that has been left on the floor. It is not a very hard job, but the Mr. Clean takes up the dirt and leaves a nice shine.
You also have those jobs that do not get done very often. When was the last time you pulled your stove out and cleaned behind it? If you are like me, it has been quite some time. When you do, there is all that grime and yuckiness back there. What do you do? You bust out the Mr. Clean and he takes care of all that stuff that you haven’t bothered to acknowledge in ages.
I remember when I was going to make some home made fries (one of my pregnant foods), I went to pull the fryer out and it slipped out of my hands and the oil spilled all over the kitchen floor. It was a mess. I finally mopped up all the oil and there was still this slick spot that did not want to go away. I used some Mr. Clean and it went away. Mr. Clean got rid of the grease.
Later I was thinking about our ultimate Mr. Clean. When you think about Jesus, that is what He is. He does all the things they sing about in the jingle. Jesus gets rid of the dirt and grime and grease. If you let Him, He will go to work on your whole life and all the parts of it.
Jesus will clean the dirt in our lives; the stuff that we do that may be easy to stop. He will give us the reason to show patience and understanding instead of intolerance. He will help us to have peace and joy instead of chaos. Jesus will clean the dirt from your life if you let Him.
Jesus will clean the grime in our lives; the stuff that we do not look at very often. The problems that we have that maybe, we do not like to admit to ourselves or anyone else. Sometimes others see what these faults are, sometimes not. Jesus will work with us to help us see and understand that we choose not to see. Jesus will clean the grime from your life if you let Him.
Jesus will even clean the grease in our lives; the stuff that hangs on and doesn’t want to go away. He can get in there and make every curse word a bad note in your head, He can make the alcohol not taste so sweet, the drugs not have the same effect. He knows the things that trip you up and He wants to help you past them. He wants you to live free from them. Jesus will clean the grime from your life if you let Him.
There will be times when you fall, when you mess up and your life gets dirty again. All you have to do is ask your Mr. Clean to come through with another cloth and wipe you down again. To forgive you so you can start with a clean house again.
